Artist Statement

Much of my work derives from nature bridging between the natural world and the imagination, recreating familiar forms in my own voice. Over the past two years, I have been particularly drawn to the ceramic medium, and in this time, I have created pieces that emit a sense of mystery and intimacy. Often people ask me what they are, but it is not my intent to make that obvious. This mystery is deliberate and intended to force the viewer into a dialogue with the work. These pieces represent a potential for life and the remnants of life. The process and the evidence of the process is significant to the work itself. Some of my more recent works are coated in wax rather than glazed; these are intended to relate to the ephemeral quality of nature that I feel has been lost in such a resilient/durable medium.

About Me

In August 2019, I graduated with my bachelor's in craft and material studies, and a semester of my graduate program complete. Though I had focused on ceramics for my thesis show, I am both experienced in and enjoy a vast variety of mediums. These include but are not limited to: metalworking, photography, charcoal drawing, painting, the digital arts, woodworking, glassblowing, stuffed sculpture, and multimedia sculpture.
